Batman finds Gordon dying, having an axe lodged in his chest. Gordon is exposed to be contaminated, and he abruptly assaults Batman, but is subdued by Alfred's daughter, Julia. With Nightwing's aid, Batman deduces that the Joker is employing a serum effective at healing him from deadly harm, and the virus includes the serum's comprehensive inverse.
